 Atlantic scallops are a type of bivalve mollusk that is found in the northwest Atlantic Ocean. Atlantic scallops are found on the continental shelf of the northwest Atlantic from the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence south to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. They typically occur at depths ranging from 18–110 m, but may also occur in waters as shallow as 2 m in estuaries and embayments along the Maine coast and in Canada. Atlantic scallops are filter feeders, and they use their large, flat shells to strain plankton and other small organisms from the water. They are capable of swimming short distances by clapping their shells together, but they spend most of their time resting on the ocean floor. 

Atlantic scallops are a versatile seafood item that can be prepared in a variety of ways. They can be steamed, broiled, sauteed, or fried. They can also be used in a variety of dishes, such as chowder, pasta, and risotto. They are a popular seafood item, and are known for their sweet, delicate flavor. Atlantic scallops are a good source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and other nutrients.
